Katie & Gavin

Updated: Feb 17, 2023

Mabie House, Dumfries | 10th July 2021

This was one of those days when everything just comes together to work perfectly. The location, weather, couple, decor, everything was just amazing and was by far one of my favourite weddings to date. Katie & Gavin were a dream to photograph and the whole day was just the best.

Katie got in touch through a mutual friend and from our first enquiry call I knew that we were going to be the perfect fit. This wedding was one that was all in the midst of the dreaded Covid restrictions. The restrictions had lifted slightly for the first time and I think that has something to do with how much I loved this wedding because I was so happy to be back shooting again.

Complimentary Engagement Session

Katie & Gavin chose a collection that included a complimentary engagement session. At first, like the majority of my couples, Katie & Gavin were both a bit apprehensive about an engagement session. I drove down to Dumfries to the wedding venue, Mabie House, to scope it out and to take some images of Katie, Gavin and their then 1 year old Ruaraidh.

After walking around the beautiful grounds of Mabie House, they were both over the moon that they had the engagement session and both commented on how good it was to meet up with me before the wedding and just how much fun it was. They both felt a lot more relaxed a month later on the big day because we had met before. They also had a full gallery of images like the ones above to keep forever and to make beautiful tangible products of.

The Big Day

I remember driving down to Dumfries on the morning of Katie & Gavin's wedding. With my Costa Coffee and bacon roll I had the windows down and Spotify blasting, I was loving life. Weddings were back and the sun was out!

Katie, Gavin, Bridesmaids and parents were all staying in the hotel the night before which made it really easy to capture bride prep and guests arriving. The morning went smoothly and after capturing some detail shots of everyone getting ready and the Mabie team setting up for dinner, I jumped outside to capture the set up for the outdoor ceremony. It couldn't have been better conditions for an outdoor ceremony. A bit of cloud to block the harsh sun and not too hot that guests were melting waiting on that first kiss.

The wood fired pizza truck at the end of the night was just the perfect way to round off the day. Outdoor dancing, pizza, , stunning sunset, family and friends - what more could you want?!
